The Dust has settled! If you did not know this, now you will. In order to rank in Bing you must have unique content. Starting this month in order to rank in Google you must have unique content. It is very simple, you must have UNIQUE CONTENT!
But, lets look at an example, Wheels. Manufacturers do not write description for wheels and if you think about it wheels dont really need content, they just look different.Wheelsnolimit.com the wheel data provider for Shopping Cart Elite has 2000 unique Wheel products (thankfully we dont have to write a unique description for each part number, otherwise that would equal to 2 million unique products).
For those wondering if it is possible / realistic to write 2000 unique description for a wheels, the answer is yes. You can hire someone from India or Philippines and get the job done. But the quality will be very low and who would want to read it anyway? But that doesnt matter because GOOGLE! wants to see unique content.
Google hates low quality content, but they will accept low quality content versus no content at all. So considering that your competition will not write 2000 unique descriptions, it really sounds like a good idea for you to do it, wouldnt you agree?
But wait, do you really think I would be advising you to spend $4000 on writing low quality descriptions for the sake of ranking on Google? The answer is no. I can mention it, but not write a whole blog post about it.
Scott from Warehousetire.net, gave me an idea. He said can you make a tag that will let me dynamically populate the title of the product in the description, that way I wont have to write a new description every time. I replied yes, but that will still cause Google to see duplicate content since the title will not make it unique. But then a light shed on me and I said wait a minute, why dont we just spin the description into 1000 unique ones. This way you can write something once, upload in bulk to all the products and a year worth of work (plus $4000 dollars saved) is done in one day!!!! GENIUS!!!
